The London Dance Championships, a new open dance competition for the young people of London, will take place on Friday 27 November 6 – 10pm as part of UFest, the capital’s largest ever youth-led cultural festival that will take over Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park later on this year. The London Dance Championships will bring London’s most exciting contemporary youth dance groups together with some of London’s leading dance organisations, including the Barbican Centre, Breakin’ Convention, East London Dance and Sadler’s Wells. Groups will gather in the jaw-dropping setting of the London Aquatics Centre to battle it out for £3,500 worth of prizes.
Over a three-hour dance extravaganza, 16 youth dance groups aged between 14 and 25 will compete through a series of competitive heats, alternated with performances by partner dance organisations, with the winner of each one decided by a ‘clapometer’, which measures the volume of the audience response- the most democratic way to decide a winner. Tickets to the UFest and the London Dance Championships are priced at £10, and can be purchased at: www.ufestldn.com
Alistair Spalding, Sadler’s Wells’ Chief Executive and Artistic Director, said: “We are excited to be taking part in UFest by supporting the London Dance Championship and presenting work at the festival. The future of dance is in the hands of the young talent of today and I very much look forward to seeing the performances by the competing dance groups on 27 November.”
Groups who would like to put themselves forward to take part can register online at www.ufestldn.com by Monday 19th October.
